Group Questions

How do I create a group?

Sign in and click the Create a Group link over there on the right. Fill out the form and click Save Changes. One group will probably be more than enough, but you can create up to twenty.

To get people to join your group try using the Seek Players page to find the people you would like to be in it. In the filter check Only those open to Invitation. This will narrow down your search to only those players who have left the Invite Buttons on - meaning that they either don't know about the Invite Button or are looking to join a group.

Clicking the Invite Button on a player's profile sends them a generic invitation which links to your group's profile. If they want to join they can then click the Join button on that page.

Do you have any advice on running a group?

Sure! But where do I begin?

  • Don't start a group unless you yourself have the time to game with. Other players can skip on a meeting, but generally it's assumed that the organizer will always be there.
  • Never let anyone into the group without interviewing them in person first (and in a safe public place). Granted the site is designed to help people find the groups they will be comfortable with, and hopefully people won't bother trying to join groups they don't fit in with. However this is the internet, misunderstandings happen. Think of it this way, most games go on for a couple of hours. If you can't stand to be with a person for four minutes the game is simply not going to happen.
  • Let more people join than you actually need. Take a tip from the airlines - always overbook the flight because people not showing up is a given. If you like gaming groups of six to eight people, let ten to twelve people become members. If too many people show up to the game then that's what the Xbox is for - just kidding.
  • Be diligent about your gaming schedule. As organizer you should find a night of the week which works for you and be a stickler about gaming on it every week or possibly every other week. Gaming once every three weeks usually puts far too much time in between games for people to stay interest. Gaming once a month hardly ever works unless the day is like a big miniature gaming festival, possibly a gathering of different groups in your area.
  • Never cancel a Get Together! Sure the Delete Button is there, beckoning you, tempting you to click it. But don't do it!!! Nothing sends out the message that a group is falling to pieces quite like a cancelled gaming session. Even if your gaming group of fifteen people filters down to just you and someone else sitting in a coffee bar talking about orcs, stick with it; chances are that news of this will shame the other players into coming back to the group full force.
  • Need a Player. Find a Player. If you can't find enough people on the site to join your group, that's probably because not many people in your area know about diceage.com. Click on the "Spread the Word" link to the left, print out a few or our flyers and hang them up around town, then check back periodically to see if who has joined.

How do I add/remove members of my group?

As organizer, go to the Group's profile page and click the Members button in the upper right hand corner of the page. This will take you to a page which handles and explains how it all works.

To get people join your group, that is something they must do on their own - by going to the Group's profile and clicking the Join button.

How do I get people to join my group?

You could hang up signs in your local book/hobby/comic shop, but it's probably easiest to go to the Seek Players page, check the Only those open to Invitation checkbox in the filter and then see who in your area is already a part of the site and is looking to join a group.

The invitation button, when a player has the option turned on, can be found in the upper right hand corner of the player's profile. Clicking it will send the person a generic invitation to join your group and a link to the group's profile so they can check it out. If they like the group they will click the join button and try to become a member.

How do I get rid of a group?

Group's not working out? Sorry to hear it. Go to the group's profile and click the Disband button. This will take you to a page which on submission will completely erase the group and all of its stuff.

How do I give my group to somebody?

Go to the group's profile page and click the Transfer button. The page will guide you from there.
